Jasper review: a premium option for writers who want the best of the best

AI writing tools are becoming an everyday point of discussion ever since OpenAI released their ChatGPT tool to the public. While many people are probably aware of ChatGPT or even OpenAI, many people might not be aware of all the other AI writing tools out there. Because of this, Humanoid has decided to take a look at some of them for you.

We have already reviewed Copymatic and WordHero. Both of these tools are fairly under the radar compared to Jasper, which we are reviewing today.

Jasper was one of the first AI writing tools available on the market. Originally, Jasper was called Conversion.ai. It was later called Jarvis.ai before getting cease and desist from Disney. The company finally settled on Jasper.ai.

Despite these multiple name changes, Jasper still greatly benefits from the first-mover advantage and is the go-to choice for many who probably aren’t even aware of its competition. Because of this, Jasper has a strong reputation and is able to charge more than its competitors.

In our opinion, Jasper is still very much the cream of the crop when it comes to AI writing tools. Jasper’s user interface, cross platform integration, and processing speeds make it a superior product to much of the competition. However, we are not sure the price is justified considering that there are so many alternatives that do much of the same things as Jasper.

Features

With Jasper’s “Boss Mode” plan, which is the middle tier of plans offered by Jasper, you will be able to use 66 tools, a ChatGPT-like chat bot, and a document writer for longform writing. All of Jasper’s tools can be found under the template tabs.

The majority of Jasper’s tools will help you produce engaging short-form content. Others will help you edit your work, like the Content Improver or the Text Summarizer.

Where Jasper really shines is in its long-form text generation capabilities. With the Documents tool, you can create longform text for ads, blog Posts, email campaigns, rewrites, and social media campaigns.

Jasper pros and cons

Pros

Intuitive and user friendly

Some AI writing assistants can look intimidating, especially for people unfamiliar with prompt programming. Jasper is the opposite.

Jasper’s user interface is easy to use and will look very familiar to Google Doc users. Additionally, Jasper’s prompt programming is broken down into very clear steps that allow you to change your prompts if you are not liking what you are seeing so far from Jasper.

Jasper is also transferable thanks to their Google Chrome extension. This tool allows you to take Jasper with you almost everywhere you go on the internet, like Twitter, Google Docs, and WordPress.

Always improving

Jasper was one of the first to the market and continues to lead the way with its new features. For example, Jasper also incorporates image generation technology for writers to create graphics and images in seconds.

One major new tool is Jasper’s chat feature. Jasper now includes a chatbot that is similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This tool allows for quick edits and interaction between the writer and AI tools.

Jasper’s Chrome tool is also a new technology that you would be hard pressed to find with other AI tools.

Cons

Expensive and not everything is included in every plan

As mentioned in the introduction, Jasper is expensive. For comparison, writing 700,000 words with Jasper costs double what it would cost with Copymatic.

What you are getting with Jasper’s high cost are the great features I have already mentioned. You are also paying for Jasper’s sterling reputation.

For some people, paying for a high-reputation product is worth it. Understandably, others don’t care about reputation and only care about paying for quality. For that latter group of people, we don’t think Jasper is for you.

Jasper is sleek, efficient, and well integrated, but its competitors are not much worse, so for us, Jasper is expensive for what they are offering.

Jasper's pricing

How does Jasper work?

Jasper, like most other AI writing assistants, uses OpenAI’s Generative Pre-Trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3)

OpenAI is an artificial intelligence company founded by Silicon Valley investors, including Twitter C.E.O. Elon Musk, in 2015. The GPT-3 AI text generation model is the most advanced on the market to date.

OpenAI is the most high profile and cutting edge AI company on the planet. They are partnered with Microsoft and currently working on their next text generation model, GPT-4.  Given their history as industry leaders, Jasper will likely incorporate GPT-4 into its software as soon as it is released.

WordPress Plugin

Jasper offers a WordPress plugin to make publishing your works fast and easy. Not all AI writing tools offer this, so Jasper stands out in this regard.

Final thoughts

Jasper has a longstanding reputation for being the best AI writing assistant on the market. With this reputation comes a big price tag. Jasper lives up to its reputation. If you want to be sure you are using the best of the best, you should use Jasper.

If you are okay with not using the best of the best, Jasper might not be for you. Alternatives, like Copymatic, do the same thing as Jasper for half the cost. You may miss out on some of Jasper’s sleek AI and prompt programming tips, but you still will be able to produce quality content using other AI writing tools.

Jasper review final score:

Jasper remains the best AI writing tool available. It’s a great option for all writers, but especially for those who want the best of the best. However, cheaper options are available and might be better for writers on a budget.
